Coventry Gigafactory Go-Ahead!

Coventry City Council have announced that they have been given the green light for the proposed West Midlands based Gigafactory.

The announcements comes after months of outlining dedicated plans to prepare the UK for Net Zero targets.

The Gigafactory aims to bring more than 6,000 direct highly skilled jobs to the area, and thousands more within the supply chain

The West Midlands is renowned for the automotive impact it has had on the UK. The proposed locations for the Gigafactory was an obvious choice given the talent and existing automotive sites available near by.

Coventry airport and Jaguar Land Rovers head office at Whitley have been identified as prime locations.

Coventry and Warwickshire have listened and worked closely with regional partners and have already been hugely successful in cultivating a hub of battery research and development.

“We have the location, people and supply chain expertise developed in the automotive and battery sectors over many years to make us the perfect location for a Gigafactory. The next step is to secure an investor to ensure that the wider automotive and battery ecosystem in Coventry and the West Midlands continues to contribute towards increased economic growth, job creation and skills development.”
