CCFC || Hamer, Sheaf & Big Vik Talk With Fans

CCFC players talk to fans at another great night for local supporters club.

Bedworth & Nuneaton Coventry City Supporters Club (BNCCFCSC) held host to another great night for local Sky Blue fans last night.

It has been a long wait to see the return of first team players at one of the clubs meetings, and it did not disappoint.

Ben Sheaf, Gustavo Hamer and Viktor Gyökeres were greeted with cheers and songs from a packed out room at he Bedworth Liberal Club

Founded 5th October 2018, BNCCFC began a journey which has now amassed hundreds of members, all sharing a passion for the Sky Blues.

Steve Harding, Scott Harding and Ian Harding along with a number of others, spend there spare time organising match day tickets, travel and events all in support of Coventry City Football Club.

Bedworth & Nuneaton CCFC Supporters Club is a members only organisation that truly connects CCFC with the fans. A night like last night is just a small example of what they do, and of course the players and fans loved the evening!

City Is Where I Want To Stay

First up was Ben Sheaf.

Ben took comfortably to the stage and was quick to answer questions from the MC, Ian Harding. Ben started his professional career with Arsenal under Arsène Wenger’s charge and noted how highly he regarded Jack Wilshire during his tenure there.

Ian asked Ben about his early career, his loan spells at Stevenage and Doncaster Rovers and how he came to be playing for City. Ben joined Coventry on 4th September 2020 and stated that whilst he came to the club initially on loan he knew that is where he wanted to stay. Sheaf signed for Coventry City on a 3 year deal in July 2021.

Welcome To The Championship Mate

Next up was fan favourite Gus Hamer!

Born in Brazil, but grew up in Holland, Hamer began his career at Feyenoord where he made 2 first team appearances after progressing through the youth system. A couple of loan spells at other dutch football clubs saw Gus gain more than 60 appearances.

We have seen Gus show a lot of passion on the pitch. In fact in the 20/21 season stats show he made 85 fouls, received 8 yellow cards and 1 red. Off the pitch and on the stage last night he also showed a lot of passion for the Sky Blues and loves being a part of this amazing team.

Ian asked Gus how different it is to play in the English leagues to that of the dutch. Hamer recalls a story (but couldn’t remember the players name) Coventry City were playing Bristol in one of the first games of the season and were 1-0 down after 30 seconds. Gus seemed to be targeted and one of the defenders joked ”Welcome To The Championship Mate”.

A Round Of Applause

We’ve Got A Big Swede On Our Side

Lastly to climb up on to the stage was big Vik himself! The BNCCFC Supporters Club actually sponsor Viktor as a player and have done for the past couple of years and of course he received a very loud reception from the fans.

Viktor joined the sky blues during the 20/21 season on loan but made his move permanent for 21/22 where he bagged 18 goals, finishing the season as the club’s top scorer and winning the Players’ Player of the Season award.

Viktor Gyökeres has since made 5 appearances for the Swedish International team, and Ian Harding was quick to state “You’ve now met Zlatan!” Vik replied “Zlatan has now met me”, which the fans loved.

Pictures, Autographs & A Wholesome Evening

The fact that first team players, and in previous meetings former players and management come to these events is simply amazing. Not many clubs (If any at all) do this type of PR.

The fans absolutely enjoyed last night as they have done with every other night held at the Bedworth Liberal Club.

It’s great to have the players, management and fans interacting at such a personal level. To have that level of insight in to the lives; professionally and personally really connects us as fans and club.

At the end of the evening, Steve and the team held raffles where VIP tickets, signed shirts and more goodies were won by the fans.

There was banter between the fans and the players, laughs and cheers all round. Simply yet another great night held by all those involved at Bedworth & Nuneaton Coventry City Supporters Club.
