Major Road Resurfacing Projects Set to Improve A444 Griff Way and Bedworth Bypass
Starting August 8, 2024, the A444 Griff Way and Bedworth Bypass will undergo extensive road resurfacing. These roadworks will span 28 nights, excluding the August Bank Holiday. The goal is to enhance road safety and surface quality. This project is part of the Network North Funding initiative, designed to upgrade local highways across Warwickshire.
Project Details
The resurfacing project will cover the A444 Griff Way from Griff Island to Hospital Island and the A444 Bedworth Bypass from Griff Island to Walsingham Drive Island. To minimize disruption, the works will be conducted between 8:00 pm and 6:00 am, including weekends. The resurfacing involves removing and replacing the existing road surface to a depth of 110mm. This will significantly strengthen the road structure and create a smoother, safer driving experience for all road users.

Councillor Jan Matecki, the County Council Portfolio Holder for Transport and Planning, highlighted that the additional funding from the Network North initiative has enabled a range of projects aimed at enhancing the highways network and ensuring safety.
“We have scheduled work to cause minimal disruption to road users, and we thank people for their understanding while the work is ongoing,” said Matecki. Clearly signed diversions will be in place throughout the project to assist motorists.

This project follows the successful resurfacing of the A444 Griff Island roundabout completed in summer 2023, showcasing Warwickshire County Council’s commitment to maintaining and improving the local road network.
The Network North Funding initiative, reallocating funds from the cancellation of the northern sections of HS2 Phase 2, has provided an additional £8.3 billion towards highways maintenance from 2023 to 2034. Warwickshire has been allocated £2.056 million for both 2023/24 and 2024/25. These funds support various projects, including bridge maintenance, pothole repairs, and lighting replacements at critical junctions.
