There will be no collections made by Coventry City Council during the week before Christmas because of strike action.

Coventry City Council have rejected a proposed working pattern by union members, labelling it “impractical”.

Unite, the union informed the Council that on strike days, the drivers intent to work one hour and then strike the next.

This proposal would mean that staff on strike would cause maximum disruption whilst maintaining half day pay.

The proposal has been rejected by Coventry City Council, meaning there will be no service at all on strike days.

Further details will be released in the coming days, but the last uninterrupted week of bin collections will be this week.

On Tuesday 4 January when drivers will be working again, priority will be given to the vulnerable and clearing assisted bin collections as well as bins in flats which can pose a fire risk.

Wednesday 5 January and Thursday 6 January are strike days, but on Friday 7 January all household waste (green lidded bins) will collected from Friday properties regardless of whether or this is your scheduled collection day for household waste.

Bedworth and Nuneaton Collections

We have had no need to suspend or amend the bin collection services and these will go ahead as normal on routine collection days throughout the festive period.

Residents will be aware that in recent years’ we have had need to amend the bin collection service over the Christmas and New Year period to accommodate bank holidays. We are happy to communicate, however, that this year there will be no bin collection changes and bins’ should be presented on normal scheduled collection days throughout.

As we know, recycling refuse is now collected by Coventry City council and with strike acation in full swing there was uncertainty around collection.

NBBC have clarified that there are no changes to their bin collections during Christmas and New Year.

Residents should also be aware that the green bin collection service, due to renew at the start of February 2022 is now open for subscriptions to the next service. Be sure to pay for your collection service by Friday 14th January in order to receive your green bin permit sticker in time for the 2022 service. NBBC would like to remind residents to be especially careful with recycling throughout December and January. These months regularly see an increase in unrecyclable and extensive material being put out in the brown lid bins accidentally.
